Introducing Group THIRTEEN of our 25: University of Leeds
Posted on 16th December, 2011
We are very excited to announce that the tenth of our twenty-five '25by2012'
groups is the Mind Matters Society at the University of Leeds. The group was founded back in 2008/09 out of a drive to raise awareness of issues related to mental health and to promote wellbeing amongst the student population, creating an atmosphere where discussion of mental health and wellbeing is actively encouraged. Group leader Christie Rossiter, who is in her final year of a Joint Honours Degree in Psychology and Philosophy had this to say on becoming 1 of the 25,
"We are extremely excited to be teaming up with Mental Wealth UK. As a society we have grown considerably over the past year and we hope that through working together with Mental Wealth UK and affiliated groups, we can make a bigger impact and go further in helping to spread the word about mental health issues on campus."
This year they have been working hard on growing their active membership base, and have had a speaker present research on food addiction and discuss stereotypes around this. For 2012 they have a multitude of exciting events planned; such as fundraising days, socials and stress-busters! They will also be showing a mental health-related film during the International Cultural Festival at the university.
We look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength in 2012!
