Mental Wealth Champions Appointed to Lead Mental Wealth UK in 2011/2012

The start of November saw the appointment of five new Mental Wealth UK student ambassadors for the 2011/2012 academic year. These five, known as the ‘Mental Wealth UK National Student Committee’, will aim to continue the great work done by the 2010/2011 Student Mental Wealth Committee last year.

The Committee exists to provide national representation for the growing network of Mental Wealth groups, and a voice for campus wellbeing across the UK. They will lead national campaigns and fundraisers, and encourage additional support for the Mental Wealth group network. The Committee will be responsible for engaging activities that promote wellbeing on their campus, and offering guidance to both existing and new groups.

This nucleus of individuals consists of Mark Jordan (Cardiff University), Hannah Brotherton (Swansea University), Lisa Anderson (Durham University), Hannah McHardy (University of St. Andrews), Hannah Cowan (University of Cambridge). Mark Jordan, a final year Medical student, was appointed Chair with Hannah Brotherton, currently studying for a MSc in Abnormal & Clinical Psychology, was chosen as Secretary. On being selected as Committee Chair, a proud Mark had this to say, "The announcement of the National Committee is an exciting and important step in ensuring the sustainability and development of Mental Wealth UK. We as a group of committed and enthusiastic Mental Wealth members will strive to ensure individual university groups are well supported in establishing themselves within their student populations and can continue to expand in the upcoming months.  To be elected chair of the new committee is a great honour and I will strive to work hard for a cause I am immensely passionate about and develop Mental Wealth UK for
the better.'"

This development represents a key landmark in the Mental Wealth UK calendar, and is an important one for university wellbeing as this group of five leaders aim to take Mental Wealth UK to new heights.
